For cold chain logistic, which require temperature to be +15C to +25C. I think PCM+17C will be a perfect materials to be used as energy storage material.

 

Cold chain box is a systems engineering work. The performance of the box depends on several factors based on our knowledge.

 

Please refer to picture above, normally for cold chain box, there are three layer to keep the inner temperature, corrugated paper, form and bottles with PCM inside.

              

 

Corrugated paper and form, can influence the temperature controlled ability of the box a little for sure.

 

But we think the PCM bottle contributes the most ability of box’s temperature controlling.

 

 

For +17C PCM, before we discuss how we could achieve the highest energy level. We should know the temperature-controlled box will be delivered in high temperature environment (higher than 17C) or low temperature environment. 

 

If the box will be used in higher temperature environment:

 

As you know for the +17C PCM material, when environmental temperature is higher than its melting point, +17C PCM material will become liquid from Solid. The material will absorb energy from environment, when it is melting. In this theory, the +17C material will keep the box inner space temperature to be around +17C, before it totally become liquid.

 

So we should make the PCM inside the bottle to be solid and also make sure the PCM bottle temperature to be not lower than +15C. I think a temperature detector can help achieve that.

 

If the box will be used in low temperature environment.

 

+17C PCM will become solid when environmental temperature is lower than its freeze point. The material will release energy to environment during solidification. In this theory, the +17C material will keep the box inner space temperature to be around +17C, before it totally become solid.

 

So we should make the PCM inside the bottle to be liquid and also make sure the PCM bottle temperature to be not higher than +25C. I think a temperature detector can help achieve that too.
